Home-Based UNDP Internship Opportunity: Climate and Energy Project Support in Rome, Italy 2025

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is offering an exciting opportunity for aspiring young professionals to contribute to meaningful climate and energy initiatives.
The Internship – Climate and Energy Project Support position, based at the UNDP Rome Centre for Climate Action and Energy Transition, invites passionate individuals to gain hands-on experience in advancing sustainable energy and climate policies. The position is also open for home-based applicants and runs for six months.
About the UNDP Rome Centre
The Rome Centre for Climate Action and Energy Transition serves as a key hub for implementing the strategic partnership between UNDP and the Government of Italy. It focuses on promoting sustainable development and advancing international collaboration among G7 and G20 countries. The Centre leads major initiatives in three main areas — Technical Assistance and Investment Support, Energy for Growth, and Youth4Climate.

These programmes aim to mobilize financial resources for climate-friendly projects, promote clean energy access in developing countries, and empower young people to take the lead in environmental action. Through its partnerships, the Rome Centre channels Italian and global expertise to accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG13 (Climate Action).
Internship Responsibilities
The selected intern will work closely with the Climate and Energy teams, supporting daily operations, research, and project coordination. Key duties include:
- Conducting research and analysis on renewable energy, sustainable development, and climate mitigation strategies.
- Assisting with project coordination, including tracking progress, preparing reports, and supporting event logistics.
- Providing administrative and communication support, such as drafting newsletters, social media content, and meeting documentation.
- Supporting event organization, including workshops and webinars related to climate and energy initiatives.
Eligibility and Requirements
Applicants must be enrolled in or have recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant fields such as Environmental Science, Public Policy, Energy Studies, International Relations, or Communication. Strong research, writing, and analytical skills are essential, as well as proficiency in English. Knowledge of Italian or another UN language is considered an asset.
This internship is not financially compensated; candidates must be sponsored by their universities. Applicants are also responsible for securing medical insurance for the entire internship duration.
