Fulbright Swedish Scholar Program 2026–2027: ( SEK 50,000 grant award, Travel Allowance + J-1 visa fees)

The Fulbright Swedish Scholar Program is now open for applications for the 2026–2027 academic year, offering an exceptional opportunity for Swedish scholars to conduct advanced research or lecture at top universities and research centers in the United States.

A Gateway to Academic Excellence

The Fulbright Swedish Scholar Program welcomes applicants ranging from recent Ph.D. recipients to full professors. Grantees will spend a minimum of three months in the U.S., with visa sponsorship for up to twelve months. During this period, scholars engage in collaborative research, share knowledge through lectures, and immerse themselves in the dynamic academic culture of their host institutions.

To qualify, applicants must have an established affiliation with an American university or research center prior to applying. Those already engaged in research with a U.S. institution at the time of application are not eligible. Scholars who have not yet completed their doctoral degree must present proof of completion before departure.

To be considered, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold Swedish citizenship (dual U.S.–Swedish citizens are not eligible).
  • Demonstrate proficiency in English.

  • Hold a doctoral or terminal degree by the time of departure.
